NABA 2019 Summer Intensive: Accessories Design

Ciao ciao!

This accessories design course had made me so excited ever since I signed up for it. Unfortunately, all of my friends were in a different course together, and actually had my old professor as their teacher again. I had the option to switch classes, but to me that was the easy way out, doing something that I knew was comfortable with. I also decided to not switch because I don’t have access to an accessories course back in Alabama and know how great it would be on my resume.

I had 2 professors in this course and very much enjoyed the woman named Daniella, an Italian native. She had so much knowledge on the industry and has been working for Aldo since their start back in (blank). She was wonderful for always understanding my concepts for my collection of women’s shoes, marketed towards brides, the bridal party, and event goers. My second professor, blank, was always a bit confusing on what he expected from us and it seemed that the two professors never had communication open about what the other was teaching and assigning to the class. Either way, this course had a larger focus on individual work and we started our final projects on the first day, just building and adding to it everyday after that. Again, the course was 9 days long from 10:00 to 16:00 with an hour lunch break. Since most of my friends were in a different course, they were on field trips most days and not close to campus so these 2 weeks I went home to make lunch often, which was nice because I could get a load of laundry done during this time.

This course differed from the last as it didn’t really have a structure and had a huge self motivation factor. My male teacher showed up late most days, so I took matters in my own hands working on my mood board, customer profile and sketching my designs of my shoe collection. My concept like I said was more of a bridal/party goer collection, and having a house slipper for the girl that stays home to entertain. You can scroll through my final project below.

XOXO,

Kenzie Rae
